SimpleViewer v1.8 Released

I finally got around to updating SimpleViewer. SimpleViewer is a free, customizable image viewing app that’s been suprisingly popular – I currently get around 7,000 downloads a week. It can be time-consuming to provide support, but it’s also gratifying to know lots of people are enjoying my software.

You can view the list of new features and bug-fixes here. Most of these feature were based on user feedback from the forum. The previous SV code was a few years old now and was starting to show it’s age, so I re-coded it from scratch in AS2.

I also offer SimpleViewer-Pro for sale here. The new version of SimpleViewer-Pro is a lot easier to customize than the previous version.

I’d also like to say a big thanks to the people who have provided additional methods to generate SimpleViewer galleries, such as Porta, SimpleViewer iPhoto Export, SimpleViewerAdmin and FlickrViewer. Thanks!

Love the software, you’ve done an amazing job of making it simple for people to put their work online! Thanks for the update, haven’t used it yet though it looks to be good. I have to say I prefer the smaller thumbnails but that’s just a personal preference. BTW the “SimpleViewer-Pro for sale here” leads to a dead link.

Hello. Is there any possibility to download the Picasa template for the old version? The new version is fine but the old was simpler and more elegant (sorry). Anyway, thanks for Your great work.

THANKS again for this new version but I have just a request for this free version : would it possible to customize the “imagePath” and “thumbPath” via “FlashVars” ?

  12. Trevor says:

Thanks for SimpleViewer! It’s great. Working on customizing it for my website.

  13. it may be a GREAT solution for my website.

tried version 1.7 and 1.8 with iphoto export.
there are still compatibility issues with some people that look at the gallery with IE from a PC.

1.8 is improved – but I liked the smaller thumbnails of version 1.7

it would be nice to have 2 size options for the thumbs.
I like that in v1.8 it is possible to set max width/height separately.

    great anyway!

There was the time when I was wondering how to easily integrate a lot of pictures in my website – until I found SimpleViewer! No hassle, easy and simple to use and cool! I am using the server-side script, so I can easily add new galleries no matter where I am – I just need an internet connection.

Thank you for this great piece of software!

I am an apple Aperture user that really like all 3 viewers (SimpleViewer, PostcardViewer and AutoViewer). To make them easier to use, I created a plugin that creates them automatically from within Aperture.

For anyone that it interested you can find a copy of the plugin here.

Is there a discussion group or similar to be able to offer potential new features… I love this viewer, just wish it had a bit more in it…. like HTML links per image so the viewer can almost be used like a menu system and let users jump off to other views or webpages when image clicked…. 🙂

    Good work!

    Hello Felix,

SimpleViewer is really a great job! You could also include the “Full Screen” behaviour? Anyhow, any thanks for letting people take it for free. But I wonder if you have ever thought about the same type of viewer for short videos… In that case I think the swf should contain a video flv player and the gallery.xml list would refer to the list of videos… it would be wonderful!!! Think about!

    Thanks again!
    Diego
