Apple Adds Still More DRM to iPod Shuffle | Electronic Frontier Foundation "Even as it attacks DRM on music, Apple is continuing to add more DRM to its own hardware ... The latest example is the new iPod Shuffle. ... third-party headphone makers will have to use yet-another Apple "authentication chip" if they want to interoperate with the new Shuffle. Normally, of course, independent headphone makers could simply reverse engineer the interface. The "authentication chip" is there so that Apple's [...]

One of the hot trends right now are those typography designs which normally focus more on 3D. Some designers are even introducing 3D typography particularly for web designs, and even for commercials. File under Tiny, Lovely: Smashing Magazine hosts 25 Beautiful Examples Of Macro Photography. National Geographic, unsurprisingly, has been offering up all kinds of great photography lately: The gallery of vanishing sea ice is a beautiful bummer. (Will I ever take a shot as cool as that first seal image from Paul Nicklen? Thermally, maybe.) The magazine's photography contest winners show off solid work. I’ve never heard Lawrence Lessig speak, but I’ve enjoyed his blog and his public thoughts for a while. I don’t necessarily agree with everything he says, but damn, does he have a way of saying it. His presentation at SXSW today was passionate and inspiring, and certainly thought-provoking. I chatted about it with Robert Fabricant over a giant plate of barbequed meat, and our discussion walked around the nature of bringing political awareness and participation to the masses. Lessig wasn’t making [...]

Hot on the eve of the South by Southwest conference, Dennis Crowley (founder of the mobile social service "Dodgeball") and Naveen Selvadurai opened the gate to a new new mobile lifestyle application called "foursquare" for the iPhone. Foursquare, introduces a new twist to the burgeoning landscape of mobile social applications. So far, the reviews are promising. What makes "foursquare" different is it's, well, game play. Built on a solid location based platform, foursquare makes mobile check-ins seamless (telling the network [...]

I was tempted to add a Friday the 13th image at the top, since this is our second of three superstitious Fridays of 2009. But, there was a more important date to recognize. On March 13th, 2009 the World Wide Web will turn 20 years old. Which begs the question, what will become of the web next year when it's old enough to buy alcohol and gamble in Vegas? Watch out! On a more serious note, the birthday of the [...]

PepsiCo wants you to be able to see what's happening at one of the biggest idea forums this year. They're not only a huge sponsor of this year's SXSW in Austin, they're running a Twitter-based "visualizer" of happenings and ephemera at the event. Immersing themselves in emerging trends -- namely social media -- is what PepsiCo deems necessary to stay "sharp and innovative" according to Josh Karp, the company's Manager of Digital and Social Media. Their three big brands are individually [...]

This exhibition at the Triennale in Milan shows knitting, embroidery and all those (mostly) feminine crafts that are now so much in favour. I've seen quite a few exhibitions on that very theme over the past few years and this one is definitely not the best but it has merits continue Originally posted by Regine from we make money not art, ReBlogged by xtine on Mar 14, 2009 at 02:26 PM
