I finally got around to updating SimpleViewer. SimpleViewer is a free, customizable image viewing app that’s been suprisingly popular – I currently get around 7,000 downloads a week. It can be time-consuming to provide support, but it’s also gratifying to know lots of people are enjoying my software.
You can view the list of new features and bug-fixes here. Most of these feature were based on user feedback from the forum. The previous SV code was a few years old now and was starting to show it’s age, so I re-coded it from scratch in AS2.
I also offer SimpleViewer-Pro for sale here. The new version of SimpleViewer-Pro is a lot easier to customize than the previous version.
I’d also like to say a big thanks to the people who have provided additional methods to generate SimpleViewer galleries, such as Porta, SimpleViewer iPhoto Export, SimpleViewerAdmin and FlickrViewer. Thanks!
Love the software, you’ve done an amazing job of making it simple for people to put their work online! Thanks for the update, haven’t used it yet though it looks to be good. I have to say I prefer the smaller thumbnails but that’s just a personal preference. BTW the “SimpleViewer-Pro for sale here” leads to a dead link.
Brilliant! I love it. I’ll update my portfolio website as soon as possible. Thanks for addressing so many items in this update.
I stumbled into SimpleViewer by visiting someone else’s website and
I immediately used it for mine to display my family photos. I really appreciate your work. Thanks a lot.
Hello. Is there any possibility to download the Picasa template for the old version? The new version is fine but the old was simpler and more elegant (sorry). Anyway, thanks for Your great work.
This viewer is simply amazing. I got tons of emails from my website of people asking me which viewer I use for my photo galleries. Well… Simpleviewer!
S.
Wow, what a great piece of software, very well done. I will incorporate this into a site I’m working on immediately. Thankls.
Excellent. Great, efficient, simple and fast.
I love it.
brilliant software! together with Porta it is THE hit!
and Simple Viewer can be more than just a photo gallery, take a small look at my website 😉
Regards and Thanks a lot!
I`ve been looking for a software like this for a long time.Yet simple to use, but great in result!!
Using this togehter witch Porta > AND IT`S GREAT!
hey!
great gallery .. I would like to add some comments at each photos or at the global gallery, is it possible to do that ?
thanks
THANKS again for this new version but I have just a request for this free version : would it possible to customize the “imagePath” and “thumbPath” via “FlashVars” ?
Thanks for SimpleViewer! It’s great. Working on customizing it for my website.
it may be a GREAT solution for my website.
tried version 1.7 and 1.8 with iphoto export.
there are still compatibility issues with some people that look at the gallery with IE from a PC.
1.8 is improved – but I liked the smaller thumbnails of version 1.7
it would be nice to have 2 size options for the thumbs.
I like that in v1.8 it is possible to set max width/height separately.
great anyway!
I am using this viewer at my website and I love it!!! I was wondering if someone has already created a template for use with Above Lightroom Beta 4. Please let me know if you see it.
Many thanks for a stylish, customisable and easy to use image viewer. It fits in perfectly with our web-site design. Cheers ! Richard
is there a way to protect my images with simpleviewer?
will my images end up in the cache and if so, is there a way to not allow the browser to cache the image?
hi there
i would like to thank the stumble team from firefox for helping me find your site..there is no way in hell i would have found it other wise.you guys have some mindblowing actionscripting going on here
i loved all the software
lisa 😉
Excellent work!
Thanks for making this freely available.
I wonder if you have any plans to develop a similar viewer which plays short video. I am sure alot of people would be wishing for the same.
I prefer the smaller thumbnails but that’s just a personal preference.
There was the time when I was wondering how to easily integrate a lot of pictures in my website – until I found SimpleViewer! No hassle, easy and simple to use and cool! I am using the server-side script, so I can easily add new galleries no matter where I am – I just need an internet connection.
Thank you for this great piece of software!
Just what I had been looking for… simple and stylish. Thanks a lot!
Simple viewer is perfect for showing images on photography website I have just designed. Thanks for providing it free. Take a look at it. it is still partly under construction. I also used Autoviewer on same site.
Small thumbnails suit best.
I’m very interested in taking a look at the FlickrViewer! That Flickr Flash Badge for Blogs & Websites is still one of thee coolest things i’ve seen!
Cheers! Billy ;))
What a truly amazing piece of flash!
So simple to use, easy add on in Picasa. You’ve made it so easy.
Thank you very much.
I am an apple Aperture user that really like all 3 viewers (SimpleViewer, PostcardViewer and AutoViewer). To make them easier to use, I created a plugin that creates them automatically from within Aperture.
For anyone that it interested you can find a copy of the plugin here.

Thank you so much for creating the SimpleViewer! I use it for my wedding photography website, which looks so slick with your flash application. Everything is so easy to customize with the XML and AS.

Lawrence
hi everyone, first of all, thanks for this creation.
now, the question, is there any way to show a caption text?
Excellent work!
Thanks for making this freely available.
Is there a discussion group or similar to be able to offer potential new features… I love this viewer, just wish it had a bit more in it…. like HTML links per image so the viewer can almost be used like a menu system and let users jump off to other views or webpages when image clicked…. 🙂
Good work!

Hello Felix,
SimpleViewer is really a great job! You could also include the “Full Screen” behaviour? Anyhow, any thanks for letting people take it for free. But I wonder if you have ever thought about the same type of viewer for short videos… In that case I think the swf should contain a video flv player and the gallery.xml list would refer to the list of videos… it would be wonderful!!! Think about!
Thanks again!
Diego
Thanks for sharing this is nice and simple
