SimpleViewer / Flickr integration via FlickrViewer

[UPDATE: SimpleViewer v2.0 has direct Flickr Integration built in]

Over time, I’ve had lots of requests from SimpleViewer users for a way to load their Flickr images. Due to my schedule I haven’t had time to build this and I was hoping that someone else would be able to help out.

[UPDATE: FlickrViewer is now hosted here]

Finally Mark Sweeting has come to the rescue with the fantastic FlickrViewe. FlickrViewer allows you view a selected Flickr photo set using SimpleViewer. The gallery data XML is generated dynamically while images and thumbnails are loaded from Flickr’s servers. This means you can add images to your SimpleViewer gallery just by uploading images to your Flickr photo set.

FlickrViewer requires a PHP enabled web server and a Flickr API key (you can get one instantly here). It’s still in beta and needs some testing. So if you have been wanting this feature, try it out and give Mark some feedback.

Stupid Art

This artwork is so stupid it’s genius! [via…] Other stupid art: David Shrigley‘s photo of a swan.

Gran Turismo / Nike 3D Site

This is a mini-site I built a while back for NikeLab (high-bandwidth recommended). It’s a promo for a Nike / Gran Turismo 4 crossover. It uses a realtime 3D engine to create dynamic camera motion. The 3D code is based on illogicz’s great 3D engine.

I just found out this was not going to be used on the nikelab site, so I thought I’d post a link here. One extra feature in this version is that you can move the camera using the cursor-keys and W-A-S-D. Thanks to Gui, Carlos and the lab team at R/GA for making this a cool project (to give proper credit – I did the coding for this project, not the design).

AutoViewer – a New Image Viewing Application

AutoViewer is yet another Flash image viewing application. AutoViewer is designed to display a linear sequence of images and captions, and also includes an auto-play feature (hence the name). It’s free to use – click to download and for instructions on how to use.

AutoViewer was built to be part of Dane Howard’s narrative template collection. This is a great set of free, downloadable templates to display your images. He’s also accepting contributers, so if you have an interesting way to display images, let him know.

Export to PostcardViewer from Photoshop

Another update to PostcardViewer. Jeffrey Tranberry from Adobe has provided this excellent script to create a PostcardViewer gallery directly from Photoshop. Instructions are here. Nice one Jeff!

Liquid War – an unusual wargame

Liquid War is an unusual, addictive wargame. It’s been around forever (originally coded for DOS in 1998) but is recently finding new converts.

In Liquid War you control an army of pixel fighters by moving a cursor across a 2D map. Your fighters will try to move toward your cursor via the shortest path. Fighters will attack enemy fighters that are blocking their path. If your fighter defeats an enemy fighter, that fighter becomes part of your team – the total number of fighters on the map remains constant.

It seems like the best strategy is to surround your opponent, but this can be tricky with maze like maps and up to 6 players. Each map requires a different strategy.

LW can be played against the CPU or with up to 6 players. Available for Windows/OS X /Linux. [Via Edge magazine]
